As a hospitality writer in Washington, DC, I often explore the city’s dining scene, and my recent visit to the Bombay Club, celebrating its 35th anniversary, stands out as a remarkable experience. This iconic establishment is not just a restaurant; it represents the pinnacle of sophisticated dining in the nation’s capital.

Upon entering the Bombay Club, you’ll find yourself in an environment that is both intimate and elegant. The live piano music creates a soothing backdrop, enhancing the dining atmosphere. The warmth and familiarity with which the hostess and general manager greet each guest add a personal touch, making the experience even more inviting.

For their 35th anniversary, the Bombay Club presents an exquisite menu from December 11th to 16th, 2023. This menu is a celebration of their enduring excellence in the culinary world. I highly recommend the crab masala, a harmonious blend of light, textured lump crab with fennel, onions, and curry leaves, offering a delightful play of flavors. The duck kebab is another notable dish, skillfully balancing the heat of chilies, garlic, and nutmeg.

The Lamb Dhansak, a main course offering, impresses with its purée of lentils, squash, potato, cinnamon, and cardamom, providing a rich and flavorful base.

Seafood enthusiasts should try the Lobster Moilee. The combination of soft coconut and curry leaf with clove purée showcases the chef’s skill in flavor fusion. The Green Chili Chicken, a vibrant dish served with a purée of dill, tomato, cilantro, and a hearty dose of chili pepper, is perfect for those who enjoy a spicy kick.

Three desserts at the Bombay Club are a highlight, featuring Rabri, a sweet milk dessert; warm carrot Halwa, similar to bread pudding; and Kulfi, a delightful pistachio ice cream. And you get a taste of all three of them for this menu.

The wine selection at the Bombay Club is impressive. The 2022 Post and Beam Chardonnay, with its diverse flavor profile, enhance any dish. Alternatively, the 2015 Jean-Yves Devevey Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Les Champs Perdrix Blanc stands out with its intense aroma and stone fruit notes. The Mango Lassi, akin to a smoothie, is also an ideal beverage to complement the menu.

In summary, the Bombay Club offers more than just a meal; it provides a distinguished dining journey. As it celebrates 35 years of excellence, the Bombay Club continues to exemplify the best of Washington, D.C.’s dining scene. I encourage everyone to make a reservation for this special anniversary event and immerse themselves in the exceptional experience that is the Bombay Club.
