Mobius Records, the independent vinyl shop Dempsey Hamilton opened in Fairfax City in 2014, now runs a second store at 2016 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, open since September 12, 2026.
A Fairfax Favorite Teams Up With Neighborhood Restaurant Group
Hamilton partners on the Del Ray shop with Neighborhood Restaurant Group founder Michael Babin, chef Nate Anda and beverage director Greg Engert, the team behind nearby Evening Star Cafe, Hi/Fi Tex-Mex BBQ and Planet Wine. The store shares its space with Shorty’s Deluxe, so a record run can easily become lunch. “We’re fans of what we’re doing here, the music. We’re into it,” Babin told The Zebra.
The Crates Stretch Well Beyond New Vinyl
Expect some 5,000 titles across genres, from new releases and reissues to used records, plus CDs, cassettes and Record Store Day drops. The shop also stocks turntables, speakers, headphones and accessories, along with apparel, books and collectibles, and it buys used music from collectors ready to thin their shelves.
The No. 9 Lounge Gives the Shop a Stage
Programming moves upstairs from Evening Star Cafe to The No. 9, where Mobius hosts listening parties, record release shows and themed nights, and the partners hope to give emerging musicians a place to play. The NØ MAN record release show on November 12, 2026, is already sold out, so check the shows and events calendar for the next one. Mobius Records ALX is at 2016 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA. At opening the shop kept Saturday hours of 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday hours of noon to 5 p.m., closing Monday and Tuesday, so confirm current times before heading over. Some No. 9 events are free and all ages, while popular shows sell out.
