The Washington Lobbyist keeps an eye on The Points Guy for hotel and travel trends that could shape trips to and from DC, and the past two weeks brought a batch of changes worth flagging.

First up is a fast approaching deadline. The Points Guy reports that Chase’s transfer ratio to World of Hyatt drops from 1 to 1 down to 4 to 3 on Oct. 1 for Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred and legacy Ink Plus cardholders, meaning those travelers will need roughly 33 percent more Chase points to reach the same Hyatt balance after that date.

Lead writer Katie Genter notes that Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business accounts will keep the 1 to 1 rate, as will points transferred from Bilt Rewards, so the pinch falls hardest on Preferred and Ink Business Preferred holders weighing a last minute transfer before the change locks in.

Chase Sweetens The Edit Credits While Adding A Spending Cap

Hotel credit cards are also getting friendlier for business travelers who book through Chase’s The Edit program. Senior director of content Summer Hull reports that beginning Jan. 1, 2027, the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business will offer four statement credits worth up to $250 each for stays of two nights or longer at Edit properties, doubling the card’s maximum annual benefit from $500 to $1,000.

Chase is pairing that upgrade with a new $1 million annual spending cap on the card’s uncapped 3 points per dollar advertising category, a change the company says will not affect the vast majority of cardholders when it takes effect Nov. 15.

Accor Signs A New York Flagship For MGallery

On the hotel development side, Accor is putting its boutique MGallery brand on the map in the United States. Senior hotels reporter Tanner Saunders reports that the 222 room Ink 48 hotel in Hell’s Kitchen, home to the popular Hudson Vu rooftop bar, will convert into MGallery’s American flagship property in 2028 following a renovation that keeps the hotel open and independent in the meantime.

Accor’s Maud Bailly called the signing a significant step forward for the brand in North America, and members of the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program will be able to earn and redeem points there once the conversion is complete.

What This Means For DC Area Travelers

These changes matter for anyone booking DC area travel on points, since transfer ratios and credit structures shift the math on hotel stays across every major program. Follow The Washington Lobbyist for the latest on DC dining, hotels and travel news.

Say Less: Hyatt transfer ratio change takes effect Oct. 1, 2026, for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders. Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business Edit credit increase begins Jan. 1, 2027; the $1 million advertising spending cap begins Nov. 15, 2026. Ink 48 is located at 653 11th Ave, New York, NY, with MGallery conversion expected in 2028.
