The Italian Cultural Society Gala proved Italian culture is alive and thriving in Washington DC!
Italian Cultural Society Gala Sells Out the Embassy of Italy
The Italian Cultural Society Gala 2026 unfolded on April 30th at the Embassy of Italy. Every seat was claimed weeks in advance. As guests arrived, a buzzing Italian cocktail reception welcomed them. Meanwhile, live jazz set the tone. Naturally, the warm hum of the Italian language filled the room. Award-winning author, chef, and television personality Amy Riolo served as Master of Ceremonies. Throughout the night, she guided the evening with grace and wit.
If you didn’t know, ICS was founded in 1953. It was recognized by the Italian Government in 1974. As a result, the gala has been hosted at the Embassy for eleven consecutive years.
A Tribute to Maestro Gianandrea Noseda
The centerpiece honored Maestro Gianandrea Noseda. Currently, he serves as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra. Recently, his contract was extended through the 2026–2027 season.
The NSO String Quartet performed rare Puccini works. Specifically, two unpublished US premieres were featured: Preludio e fuga and Gavotta. In addition, Minuetto and the beloved Crisantemi rounded out the program.

Each musician played a historic Italian instrument from Noseda’s private collection. For instance, a 1765 Balestrieri violin, a 1725 Gagliano violin, an 1808 Ceruti viola, and a 1732 Celoniato cello were performed. Indeed, the craftsmanship was breathtaking!
Italian Heritage Rooted in Washington DC
Following the concert, dinner, recognitions, and a piano performance carried guests through the night. Illy espresso closed the evening on a perfect Italian note.
Generous sponsors made the night possible. Hilton, Eataly, Il Canale, All Purpose, Pirelli, Bank of America, Peroni, and Dolci Gelati lent their support. Proceeds from the Italian Cultural Society Gala support ICS scholarships. Additionally, language courses and free public concerts benefit from these contributions. As a result, Italian heritage remains accessible across the region.
