Calico is bringing its sixth annual Fall Festival to its Blagden Alley backyard on Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 9 p.m., with a pop-up pumpkin patch, cider tastings, live music and an early preview of the restaurant’s new fall menu.
A Free Pumpkin Patch Fills the Backyard
The afternoon and evening event turns Calico’s outdoor space into a temporary pumpkin patch, where guests can pick a pumpkin and paint it using complimentary supplies on site. The restaurant’s antique greenhouse gets a seasonal dressing of foliage and pumpkins for Instagram-worthy photos, and admission to the festival itself is free.
Cider and Live Music Carry the Afternoon
Cider tastings for guests 21 and older run from 2 to 6 p.m., paired with live acoustic music from 3 to 6 p.m. Calico is also giving guests an early taste of its new fall menu, including seasonal cookout dishes from chef and partner Nathan Beauchamp. Expect housemade fried apple hand pies with caramel, spiked pumpkin spice lattes, hard cider spritzes and maple Old Fashioneds.
More Pumpkin Weekends Are Already Scheduled
Calico comes from partners Nathan Beauchamp and Greg Algie and leans on Eastern Shore-inspired cookout food, with a bar that keeps the mood closer to a backyard gathering than a formal dinner. October 11 is not the last chance for a pumpkin, since the Calico events calendar also lists pumpkin picking and painting on Sundays, October 18 and October 25.
Calico is located at 50 Blagden Alley NW. Admission to the Fall Festival is free, while pumpkins, food and drinks are sold separately, and the event is open to walk-ins with no reservation required.
Updates and photos from the festival tend to show up first on Calico’s Instagram, and readers can follow The Washington Lobbyist for more of what’s worth doing around DC this fall.
