Malabar is adding a reason to linger on Connecticut Avenue. Beginning October 25, 2026, the Forest Hills restaurant will serve a $35 Sunday brunch built around coastal Indian cooking, with a weekly rotating buffet that makes room for fish, meat, vegetables, rice, and dessert.

India’s Coast Gives This Brunch Its Direction

Restaurateur Ashok Bajaj and Group Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam bring the experience behind Knightsbridge Restaurant Group to a neighborhood setting north of Cleveland Park.

Malabar takes its name from India’s southwestern coast, and the brunch announcement highlights coconut, curry leaves, pepper, and warm spices across the menu. The appeal is a Sunday meal with a clear regional point of view, especially for diners interested in moving beyond the usual eggs-and-toast routine.

A Changing Buffet Makes Room for Different Appetites

According to the restaurant, the buffet will change weekly, with chicken, lamb, fish, or an egg dish alongside two vegetarian selections. Rice, dal, a breadbasket for the table, and two desserts round out the meal. Sample dishes include Kerala fish fry, Mangalorean chicken curry, Malabari lamb curry, paneer with peas, and carrot-and-bean poriyal. Saffron payasam and gulab jamun are among the announced desserts.

Treat those dishes as examples rather than a guaranteed menu, and ask the team about allergies before booking.

The Neighborhood Setting Suits a Slower Sunday

Brunch will be served in the dining room and, when weather permits, on the patio. Sparkling wine, Bloody Marys, and mimosas are announced at $10 each, with a $25 unlimited option limited to 90 minutes and a $35 upgraded option for the same period. Drinks are an additional purchase. For another Connecticut Avenue dining idea, continue with our guide to Sfoglina’s handmade pasta in DC.

Sunday brunch is scheduled for 11.30 am to 2.15 pm beginning October 25, at $35 per person. Book through Malabar’s Resy reservation page to confirm brunch availability and current pricing.
