Washington’s most celebrated night in theatre returns to The Anthem on May 18.
The Anthem Hosts DC’s Premier Theatre Night
Theatre Washington will host the 42nd Annual Helen Hayes Awards on Monday, May 18, 2026, at The Anthem in Washington, DC — bringing together hundreds of the region’s theatre-makers for an evening of red carpet glamour, a festive reception, seated dinner, and live award presentations. This year’s theme, “Make a Scene,” honors theatre as both an art form and a platform for meaningful conversation and reflection in today’s world.
Star-Studded Hosts and a Historic Honor
Performers Felicia Curry, Awa Sal Secka, and Derrick Truby will host the evening, with co-directors Ashleigh King and Holly Twyford leading the creative team alongside music director Christopher Wingert. The night’s most anticipated moment: philanthropist and business leader Adrienne Arsht will receive the inaugural Transformative Cultural Impact Award, recognizing her landmark contributions to institutions including Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Kennedy Center!
