Stars, journalists, and bitcoiners packed one Penn Quarter tavern to defend the arts.
Inside the Creative Coalition WHCA Dinner at PubKey DC
On Friday, April 25, DC’s buzzy new bitcoin bar PubKey hosted the return of The Creative Coalition’s “Night Before Dinner.” Moreover, the event officially kicked off White House Correspondents’ weekend with a star-studded celebration of journalism and the arts! Creative Coalition President Tim Daly anchored the room. Meanwhile, the celebrity lineup included Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four), Zachary Levi (Shazam!, Chuck), Iain Armitage (Young Sheldon), and Wendie Malick (Shrinking). In addition, Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Rebecca Wisocky (Ghosts), Asher Grodman (Ghosts), William Stanford Davis (Abbott Elementary), and Rob Morrow (Billions) worked the crowd. Outside, fans queued for selfies with Armitage. Notably, the 17-year-old spoke eloquently on behalf of the organization.
Bitcoin Meets Broadway at Penn Quarter’s Newest Hotspot
PubKey founder Thomas Pacchia is a veteran bitcoiner and frequent media voice for the cryptocurrency. As a result, he joked he was about to regale guests with “the history of money.” The 10,000-square-foot Penn Quarter venue proved a fitting stage. Crowds mingled. Cameras flashed. Finally, the Creative Coalition Jam Band closed the night with rock-and-roll energy that spilled into the streets!
The Right to Bear Arts Takes Center Stage
In addition, the dinner capped a full day of arts-funding advocacy on the Hill. Earlier that day, CEO Robin Bronk wrote in The Hill that the event affirms journalism’s seat at the table. Furthermore, the Right to Bear Arts campaign is a nonpartisan push to defend federal arts funding. Specifically, it backs the National Endowment for the Arts. Daly framed it as a call “for the right to maintain an imaginative and expressive population.” Likewise, Bronk added that the arts “are not a red issue, nor a blue issue — they are a human issue.”
