The St. Regis Washington DC celebrated 100 years of hospitality on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with a jazz-era party in the Astor Ballroom at 923 16th Street NW, co-hosted by Town & Country. Plan your own visit to this landmark two blocks from the White House!

The Astor Ballroom Became a Jazz-Era Club for the Centennial

The hotel’s storied ballroom was transformed into an elegant expression of 1920s glamour, pairing St. Regis grandeur with the energy of a modern jazz club. Guests arrived to Champagne and live music, then settled into an evening of craft cocktails and roaming bites from the hotel’s chefs.

Contemporary jazz set the mood all night. Event production came from K. Bella Events, according to a media alert from Meg Connolly Communications.

Danielle Stein Chizzik Led a Ceremonial Sabering for a Notable Guest List

The evening was hosted by General Manager Alaina Sweeney, the youngest general manager in the St. Regis brand portfolio, and Town & Country Executive Editor Danielle Stein Chizzik. Chizzik led a ceremonial sabering to toast the hotel’s first century and the one ahead.

Guests included hotel owners H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani and Tarek El Sayed, along with Marriott International’s Satya Anand, George Fleck, and Alex Novo. The Washington Ballet’s Eun Won Lee, Miss District of Columbia 2026 Kennedy Lucas, and Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s Shawn Townsend also attended.

The Carlton Opened in 1926 and Still Anchors 16th Street

The hotel opened on October 1, 1926, as the Carlton Hotel. Historic Hotels of America credits developer Harry Wardman and architect Mihran Mesrobian with its Beaux-Arts details and grand lobby. Since then, the property has welcomed royalty, statesmen, business leaders, politicians, and celebrities.

Today it offers 182 newly renovated rooms and suites, along with St. Regis Butler Service. For more on its preservation recognition, read our coverage of the St. Regis joining Historic Hotels of America.

Afternoon Tea and a Daily Sabering Let Visitors Join the Celebration

The hotel is at 923 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20006. The centennial afternoon tea costs $99 per person before tax and gratuity, with Champagne pairings available for an additional charge. Per the hotel’s dining guide, Champagne sabering takes place in the grand lobby at 6 pm daily, and Alhambra and the St. Regis Bar are open for dining and drinks.
