ARTECHOUSE DC has reopened near the National Mall with SUBMERGE Project, a remarkable new digital art exhibition featuring 14 immersive worlds and 18 interactive installations. The September 11 reopening brings a fresh chapter to the Southwest Washington destination, inviting visitors to experience an exhibition where art, artificial intelligence and responsive technology share the spotlight.

SUBMERGE Project Brings International Digital Artists to Washington

Following its presentation in New York, SUBMERGE Project brings work from contemporary digital artists to ARTECHOUSE’s large-scale exhibition space. Its centerpiece, Beyond the Render, presents a 45-minute program across a floor-to-ceiling canvas with 270-degree projections and 18K imagery.

Thirteen artist teams contributed to the experience, including Emmy Award-winning creators Emily Yang, known as pplpleasr, and Maciej Kuciara. The exhibition moves through underwater environments, futuristic imagery and imaginative visual landscapes, creating an experience that feels closer to stepping inside an artwork than viewing one from across a gallery.

Visitors can review the complete SUBMERGE Project exhibition before attending.

Eighteen Interactive Installations Make Visitors Part of the Artwork

Beyond the main presentation, ARTECHOUSE encourages visitors to interact directly with the exhibition. Some installations respond to movement, including animated flamingos and colorful environments that change as guests approach. Others introduce artificial intelligence through conversations and imagery shaped by voice and gestures.

New York-based Interactive Items contributed work that examines how people engage with responsive digital systems. The finished presentation demonstrates how advances in digital production can change the way artists create and audiences experience their work. For Washington visitors accustomed to traditional museums, SUBMERGE offers a contemporary counterpoint, using motion, scale and interaction to make the gallery feel constantly in motion.

ARTECHOUSE Gives National Mall Visitors a New Reason to Head Southwest

ARTECHOUSE’s location near the Smithsonian museums and the Wharf makes it easy to incorporate into a full day in Washington. The exhibition works particularly well for couples planning an afternoon date, visitors interested in technology and families with older children who enjoy interactive experiences. Some installations feature intense lighting and sound, which may affect visitors with sensory sensitivities.
