Taqueria Xochi Navy Yard

Taquería Xochi, from a powerhouse female-founding duo, opens its doors this Friday.

I’m genuinely excited about this one. Taquería Xochi is officially opening its new Navy Yard location this Friday, November 14th! This is a major win for the neighborhood, bringing the “mouthwatering” (Tom Sietsema’s words!) Mexican fare from powerhouse female founders, Chef Teresa Padilla and Geraldine Mendoza. You’ll find them right at 300 Tingey St SE.

From Pandemic Pop-Up to Powerhouse

If you haven’t followed their story, Chef Teresa and Geraldine founded Xochi during the pandemic, and it’s fantastic to see their vision and success expand. This new dine-in spot joins their locations on U St., in Square Food Hall, and in Crystal City. I’m already hearing great things about “Xochi Hour” at the new bar, which (at their other locations) features $9-$10 margaritas, $8 tacos, and $6 beer specials.

Authentic Cemitas and Street Tacos

The menu is all about authentic flavors. They’re known for introducing DC to Cemitas, which are Puebla-style Mexican sandwiches, but you’ll also find a full lineup of classics like tlayudas, tacos, and refreshing aguas frescas. It’s the perfect blend of Mexican home-style and street food.

A Mission of Mexican Tradition

What’s excellent about Xochi is their clear vision. Their mission is “to share the authentic flavors and warmth of Mexican home-style and street foods with our community.” Each dish is a testament to that, blending rich tradition with the unique vibe of the capital. This is a fantastic, female-led business to support.
