Great food and a good conscience belong at the same table.

Counter Service Never Looked This Good

Rye Bunny, the newest Adams Morgan arrival from award-winning wife-and-husband team Jill Tyler and Jon Sybert, proves that counter service can be elevated without losing its soul. Tucked behind Compass Coffee on the Lanier Place side of 1827 Adams Mill Road NW, this hospitality-driven neighborhood restaurant opened in 2026 with a seasonal menu built on thoughtful local sourcing and confident, unfussy cooking. Order at the counter, settle into your seat, and let the team handle everything else from there.

A Seasonal Menu Worth Every Penny

The menu is concise and intentional. Open with the Frico Tradizionale ($16) — montasio cheese and Kennebec potatoes with crème fraîche — or the fennel-studded focaccia ($15) with house-made ricotta and honey-poached beets. Mains like the fried chicken ($28) with sumac and aleppo honey, the wild greens ravioli ($27) with green-garlic brown butter, and the Grilled Roseda Farms beef tenderloin ($44) with bacon bordelaise anchor a kitchen that moves with the seasons. The wine program, helmed by longtime DC sommelier Audrey Dowling, is exactly what she says it is — accessible and exciting — with pét nat from Virginia, orange wines from Georgia, and a Xinomavro from Greece!

Sustainability Baked Into Every Decision

Rye Bunny operates on a model that sets a new standard: every team member earns at least full minimum wage (not the sub-minimum tip credit common in restaurants), participates in a shared tip pool, and receives fully covered health care and paid time off for full-time staff. While they are primarily a walk in only restaurant, they do accept two reservations per evening via OpenTable.

Open Tuesday Through Saturday, First Come First Served

Rye Bunny welcomes guests Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30–9:00 PM and Friday through Saturday from 5:00–9:00 PM, counter service only. And the name? Named after Jill and Jon’s two rescue dogs, Charlie and Rigel — come in more than once and you’re practically guaranteed a photo.
