Washington, DC’s dining scene is evolving with elegance and precision, elevating the city’s reputation as a premier restaurant destination. A wave of openings, collaborations, and seasonal events is reshaping the District’s landscape and attracting national attention.
The Popal Group’s Vision: A Portfolio of Excellence
The Popal Group continues to curate a remarkable portfolio of restaurants, each defined by strong identities and exceptional execution. Their newest concept, Maison Bar à Vins, opens in September in Adams Morgan, introducing a French-inspired wine bar led by Executive Chef Matt Conroy, Chef de Cuisine Jason Chavenson, Beverage Director Suzy Critchlow, and Advanced Sommelier Chris Ray. The group is also behind acclaimed favorites such as Pascual, featured in The New York Times “Best New Restaurants” list; Lapis, celebrated for Afghan cuisine and honored with a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand; and Lutèce, named one of America’s Best Restaurants by The New York Times in 2022.
Wharf, Ramen and Chef Dungca
At The Wharf, JINYA Ramen Bar has opened its eighth DC-area location, backed by Sam Shoja of Harvest Eats. JINYA is collaborating with Italian influencer Gianluca Conte, known as the “Pasta King,” on a three-month CIAO Ramen special—a tomato-purée broth topped with tableside Parmesan for a playful twist on fusion dining. Meanwhile, Chef Paolo Dungca returns with Kayu in Dupont Circle, introducing a streamlined, modern Filipino menu featuring dishes like cassava cake with crab fat, jamón Ibérico, and trout roe.
Seasonal and Themed Celebrations
Seasonal celebrations are also on the horizon. 2Fifty BBQ, led by 2025 James Beard semifinalist Chef Fernando González, is offering Texas-style combos for Labor Day gatherings. Paraíso is bringing vibrant energy with a $45 bottomless brunch and inventive mimosas, while Centrolina will host the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America event on October 21 with Chefs Amy Brandwein, Conroy, and Isabel Coss.
The extended Summer Restaurant Week runs through August 31, spotlighting KNEAD Hospitality + Design’s celebrated venues—Mi Vida, Bistro Du Jour, The Grill, Gatsby, and Succotash—alongside Centrolina, which is presenting a $65 three-course menu from seven-time James Beard nominee Amy Brandwein.
Hispanic Heritage Month, beginning September 15, will highlight family traditions and cultural flavors. Chef Roberto Santibañez at Mi Vida, Chef Fernando González at 2Fifty BBQ, and Chef Isabel Coss at Pascual will feature dishes inspired by their heritage, including Coss’s grandmother’s mole from Michoacán.
The New Face of DC Dining
DC’s restaurant momentum continues with eel croquettes at Maison Bar à Vins, molotes with Yucatán pork at Mi Vida, and whole roasted branzino at Immigrant Food. Other highlights include The Dabney teaming up with the UK’s Osip and the return of the psychedelic tasting menu at Sagrada this September.
The message is clear: Washington, DC’s restaurant scene is thriving on exceptional food, daring creativity, and cultural celebration. The capital’s dining landscape has never been more dynamic—or more delicious.
