Reservoir District will host a free Sunset Deep Breathing Workshop on Wednesday, October 14 and a free walking history tour on Saturday, November 7. Register early for the workshop, since sign-up is required.
A Sunset Breathing Workshop Slows Down the Workweek
The Reservoir Recharge Wellness Series, curated by Whitney Stringer Wellness Events, brings the Sunset Deep Breathing Workshop to the neighborhood on October 14 at half past five in the evening. The session runs until half past six, and takes place in the park or on the lower level plaza beside Reservoir Park Recreation Center, with the instructor confirming the exact spot.
Attendance is free, but registration is required through Eventbrite, and the workshop proceeds weather permitting. Free outdoor wellness in the middle of DC is a welcome find!
The Walking Tour Brings the McMillan Story to Life
Reservoir District’s events page lists a walking tour on November 7 from 10 a.m. to noon, weather permitting. Guides explain how the original McMillan water treatment facility helped the city eliminate a typhoid epidemic, how the filtration silos, regulator buildings, and underground filter beds were preserved, and how landscape designs by Frederick Law Olmsted were restored, including the McMillan Fountain.
The DC Preservation League notes that the site served as DC’s first water purification facility, joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, and reopened in 2024 as part of Reservoir District.
Programming Shows How the Neighborhood Gathers
The 2026 series included Second Fridays concerts with Yellow Door Music, ice cream socials, and a Family Field Day, and the district says each will return in 2027. The project is a public-private partnership between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, which includes EYA for townhomes, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners for apartments and retail, and Trammell Crow Company for healthcare and retail.
Follow developer partner EYA Homes on Instagram for neighborhood updates. The Washington Lobbyist first mentioned Reservoir District in its DMV events roundup.
