New Orleans’ most legendary brunch lands on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Book Your Table Before Washington Misses It
Breakfast at Brennan’s arrives at The Occidental this Friday, April 17, and runs through Sunday, April 19 — 9AM to 2:30PM — three days only. This is the first stop on Brennan’s 80th Anniversary National Tour, and Washington was hand-selected by one of Pennsylvania Avenue’s most storied dining rooms. The Occidental has anchored DC’s table of consequence since 1906, housed adjacent to the Willard InterContinental where Abraham Lincoln prepared his inauguration. Two American institutions, finally at the same table — and the window to be there is closing fast!
The Irishman Who Invented Brunch
Owen Brennan opened his Royal Street restaurant in 1946 after “Count” Arnaud told him an Irishman had no business running a fine Creole establishment. Brennan answered with a pink-façaded landmark, a multicolored rooster, and a meal that redefined the American morning: Breakfast at Brennan’s, where cocktails with your eggs weren’t just permitted but celebrated.
This pop-up menu honors that legacy without apology — Eggs Hussarde, Eggs Sardou, Turtle Soup, Egg Yolk Carpaccio, and Bananas Foster, invented at Brennan’s in 1951, flambéed tableside exactly as it always has been. The Brandy Milk Punch and the Bloody Bull — a Bloody Mary built with beef broth — anchor the cocktail list.
Ralph Brennan and Chef Kris Padalino Are Both in the Room
Ralph Brennan, third-generation steward of the family legacy, will be present the entire weekend alongside Executive Chef Kris Padalino, the first woman to lead Brennan’s kitchen. A James Beard Foundation Award finalist for Outstanding Restaurant, Brennan’s carries a pedigree drawn from French and Spanish culinary ancestors shaped by generations of New Orleans history. As Brennan himself put it: “Two places that didn’t just serve great food, but broke ground for what American dining could be.”
Reserve Now — This Doesn’t Come Back Around
