paris guide 2024 things to do eat dine attractions visit hot spots must see

As a hospitality writer based in Washington, D.C. and an amateur francophile – I’m thrilled to share the details of my upcoming trip to Paris, the city of lights, love, and incredible food! When I land at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, I’ll immerse myself in the city’s rich culture, history, and world-renowned cuisine. Below is my itinerary, and I’d love to hear your recommendations for must-see locations and hidden foodie gems!

Where I’m Staying: A Chic Neighborhood in Paris

I’ll be staying in a charming walk-up apartment near the Monument à la République and Musée des Arts et Métiers, within walking distance of The Broken Arm, a high-end boutique and gift shop featuring brands like Prada, Kiko, and Rick Owens. This vibrant neighborhood offers a perfect mix of local Parisian flair and easy access to some of the city’s most iconic attractions. Whether strolling through the nearby streets or hopping on the Metro, this will be my home base for the week.

Day 1: The Louvre and Local Parisian Life

My journey starts on Sunday with a visit to the world-famous Louvre Museum. Known for its unparalleled collection of art and history, including the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, this museum will be an awe-inspiring start to my trip. Afterward, I plan to explore local cafés and soak in the Parisian vibe. What hidden gems are there within walking distance? Are there any cafés or local attractions you recommend I visit after the Louvre?

Day 2: Fine Dining and Birthday Celebrations in Paris

Monday will be dedicated to the ultimate Parisian gastronomy experience. I’ve reserved lunch at the historic Le Train Bleu. Unveiled in 1901 by French President Emile Loubet, this restaurant attracted high society and artists alike. By 1963, it was renamed to honor the Paris-Vintimille train that connected the French Riviera to Paris. Michelin-starred chef Michel Rostang has given the iconic recipes here a modern twist. Later that evening, I’ll celebrate my birthday at Le Christine, where Chef Mehdi Bencheikh reimagines French classics in an intimate setting. I’m excited about what promises to be an unforgettable birthday meal in the heart of Paris.

Day 3: Concert and Culture at Le Trianon

On Tuesday, I’ll dive into Paris’s vibrant music scene with a concert by Coline Rio at the historic Le Trianon. Originally opened in 1894 and rebuilt in 1902, this eclectic venue combines Napoleon III and beaux-arts architecture, with its facade inspired by the Grand Trianon in Versailles. This unique cultural experience will blend music with the venue’s rich history.

Day 4: Exploring the Grandeur of Versailles

Wednesday is reserved for exploring the opulence of the Palace of Versailles. From the Hall of Mirrors to the sprawling gardens, I plan to spend the day taking in the splendor of French royal history. Versailles is a must-see for anyone wanting to understand France’s grand history, and I can’t wait to immerse myself in its grandeur.

Day 5: Dining at Bistrot Instinct and Discovering Paris’s Local Food Scene

On Thursday evening, I’ll enjoy a meal at Bistrot Instinct, a contemporary French bistro helmed by Chef Maximilian Wollek. The restaurant is known for its market-fresh gastronomic dishes and homemade cordials. Before dinner, I plan to explore some of Paris’s local food halls and markets. Do you have any suggestions for a food hall I should visit or perhaps a unique Moroccan or Indian takeout spot to try?

Day 6-7: Weekend Stay at Sofitel Paris Baltimore and Iconic Paris Sights

For the weekend, I’ll be staying at the Sofitel Paris Baltimore Tour Eiffel, a hotel with stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. This elegant hotel embodies Parisian charm with its Haussmannian façade and sophisticated French interiors. I plan to check off my Paris bucket list over these two days:

Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Musée d’Orsay, Tomb of Napoleon, a relaxing river cruise, strolling through the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the Moulin Rouge, delving into the eerie beauty of the Catacombs of Paris, exploring luxury shopping at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, antique hunting at the Saint Ouen Flea Market

Foodie Finds: Exploring Paris’s Best Markets and Shops

No trip to Paris would be complete without indulging in its world-renowned food scene. Here are a few spots I’m particularly excited about:

Fromagerie Nicole Barthélémy for artisanal cheeses, Miyam Food Market for fresh produce and gourmet products, Boucherie des Gravilliers, a butcher shop famous for its local specialties, Julhès Paris – La Fromagerie, offering some of the finest cheeses in the city, organic markets, where I can experience the eco-friendly, healthy side of Parisian cuisine, and Le Paon Qui Boit (Drinking Peacock), a non-alcoholic wine store.

Please Help! Share Your Favorite Paris Spots!

I’m beyond excited for this journey, but I know there are countless hidden gems waiting to be discovered. What places should I add to my itinerary? Whether it’s a charming café, a pastry shop with to-die-for croissants, or an off-the-beaten-path attraction, I’d love to hear your recommendations for unforgettable Parisian experiences! Also, if you know any places that align with my interests—such as non-alcoholic wine shops or alternatives to macarons—please let me know. Thank you so much for your suggestions!
