The ultimate cure for the post-holiday time warp is finally here.

Escape the Gray Skies and Glide Across the Ice

We are currently floating in that confusing limbo between Christmas and New Year’s where time feels irrelevant and the skies outside are unseasonably gray. Since the weather in DC has been a mix of dry gloom and rain rather than crisp snow, we have to create our own seasonal magic to shake off the cabin fever! The National Building Museum offers the perfect remedy by transforming the Museum’s massive Great Hall into a breathtaking winter wonderland featuring a high-tech synthetic ice rink.

You can skate beneath the famous soaring Corinthian columns, surrounded by the architectural grandeur that defines this historic landmark. This indoor setting provides a comfortable and visually stunning environment for skaters of all ages, from toddlers taking their first steps during early morning sessions to adults looking for a unique evening out!

Experience Themed Nights and Delicious Japanese Treats

The experience extends far beyond the rink with fantastic programming and dining options that make this a full-day destination. After you finish your skate, you can warm up with Japanese comfort dishes from the Museum’s café, Konbini by Daikaya, which serves savory curry udon, fluffy nikuman buns, and roasted sweet potatoes known as yakiimo. Thursday and Friday evenings bring a vibrant energy with special after-hours events where DJs spin tunes ranging from Motown to K-pop while visitors enjoy beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. This is the perfect spot to gather with friends or family to keep the holiday spirit alive well into the new year!

Secure Your Tickets for this Unique Attraction

Planning your visit is simple, but you should act fast as this popular attraction draws crowds during the peak winter months. The Winter Skate Spectacular runs from December 27, 2025, through February 9, 2026, with the Museum open Thursday through Monday. Tickets for daytime admission are $20 for adults and $17 for youth and seniors, which includes one hour of skating and access to the Museum exhibitions.

If you prefer a longer session, the After-Hours admission on Thursdays and Fridays offers two hours of skating for the same price. Remember that a signed waiver is required for all skaters, and you can easily purchase tickets here to ensure your spot on the ice.
