The Smithsonian Craft2Wear show returns to the National Mall Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27, filling the historic Arts and Industries Building with handcrafted jewelry, clothing, and accessories from more than 75 American artists.

Craft2Wear is the DC area’s leading show and sale of contemporary wearable art, and it draws collectors along with casual shoppers looking for something no one else will be wearing. Pieces span a wide range of prices, so browsing is worthwhile even for visitors who aren’t ready to buy.
Organizers are introducing this year’s artists on Facebook and sharing early looks at the work on Instagram ahead of opening day. A silent auction of donated pieces runs throughout the weekend and closes at 3 p.m. Sunday, and a cafe will serve lunch all three days.
The Smithsonian Women’s Committee produces the show and has awarded more than $15 million in grants and endowments since 1966 to support the Smithsonian’s museums, libraries, research centers, and the National Zoo.
A Korean Artisan Exhibition Rounds Out This Year’s Show
New for 2026, a companion exhibition called “Korean Craftsmanship: Living Crafts of Gyeongsangbuk-do” showcases work from 12 artisans in that South Korean province, presented with the Korean Heritage Foundation.
The pieces are for viewing only, not for sale on site, though the show will provide contact information for visitors who want to buy directly from the artists afterward. It’s a rare chance to see Korean textile, metal, and ceramic traditions displayed alongside American studio craft in the same building.
The Arts and Industries Building Is Part Of The Draw
For the second year running, Craft2Wear takes over the Arts and Industries Building, a brick landmark that opened in 1881 and ranks as the second-oldest building in the Smithsonian complex.
President James Garfield’s inaugural ball was held there that same year, and the building sits between the Smithsonian Castle and the Hirshhorn Museum, a short walk from either. Because the building isn’t open for regular daily museum visits, the show doubles as one of the few chances to step inside its soaring Victorian interior. That history, paired with the art itself, makes Craft2Wear worth the trip for design lovers and architecture fans alike.
What To Expect
Craft2Wear takes place at the Smithsonian’s Arts and Industries Building, 900 Jefferson Drive SW, Washington, DC 20004. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
General admission is $20 at the door or in advance online, with discounted $15 tickets for students with ID and groups of 10 or more. Prices for individual artwork vary by piece and artist. The nearest Metro stop is Smithsonian, served by the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines.
