Folger Theatre will open its 2026–2027 all-Shakespeare season with a new production of Measure for Measure, running September 22 through November 1, 2026, on Capitol Hill.

Psalmayene 24 Moves Shakespeare’s Story to the American South

Helen Hayes Award-winning director Psalmayene 24 places Shakespeare’s dark comedy in the American South during the 1950s, bringing the play’s questions about power, hypocrisy, sexuality, mercy, and political corruption into a consequential period of American history.

The story follows novice nun Isabella as she confronts Angelo, a corrupt official who offers to spare her imprisoned brother in exchange for submitting to his desires. Adaptor Mekala Sridhar, choreographer Tony Thomas, composer KOKAYI, scenic designer Debra Booth, and costume designer Mika Eubanks help shape the production.

Renea S. Brown, Nathan Darrow, and Lee Osorio Lead the Cast

Three-time Helen Hayes Award-winning actor Renea S. Brown stars as Isabella, with House of Cards actor Nathan Darrow as the Duke and Lee Osorio as Angelo. The ensemble includes JaBen Early, Jonathan Feuer, Sean Fri, Maryanne Henderson, Ahmad Kamal, Chinai Routté, Ryan Sellers, John Sygar, Holly Twyford, and Renee Elizabeth Wilson.

Several cast members are returning Folger performers, while Darrow, Feuer, Henderson, Osorio, and Routté will make their Folger Theatre debuts.
