(Washington, DC) – The Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE), a film festival that offers “something special,” for the DC film scene according to the Washington Post, is gearing up for it’s sixth annual event.

Known as “The People’s Film Festival,” RIFE focuses on bridging the gap between local filmmakers and the world’s independent film scene. To help fulfill this goal, RIFE is partnering with local film community advocates like Meridian Hill Pictures, IndieCapitol and the DC Public Library.

These organizations will aid with programming and promotion. This year’s festival will run from October 9-16, at the Angelika Pop Up Theater at Union Market.

During the festival, RIFE along with co-presenters IndieCapitol, will be hosting the 2nd annual IndieCapitol Awards on October 11. The event will be held at the Angelika Film Center in Fairfax and will celebrate the accomplishments of filmmakers from Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia across 18 categories.

Prior to the awards there will be an Oscar-esque red carpet event with photography and event attendee interviews.
