Washington, DC (April 18, 2015) – On Thursday April 17th, Poste Moderne Brasserie of Kimpton Hotel’s Hotel Monaco hosted DC’s top pastry toques for a battle benefiting Brainfood, a non-profit youth development organization that uses food and cooking to teach and empower DC teens.
Participating pastry chefs included: Casto Unson from Poste Moderne Brasserie; Caitlin Dysart of 2941 Restaurant; Meredith Tomason of Rare Sweets; Deborah Brown of Trummer’s On Main; and Carri-Anne Hamer of Pearl Dive Oyster Palace.
These top pastry talents faced off using one core connecting ingredient and judges will vote for their favorite usage of the designated ingredient—roots, from culinary roots to community roots to literal roots.
Attendees then got a chance to try all desserts from the participating pastry chefs and voted for the dish they deem best for the crowd favorite category. Attendees also enjoyed sparkling wine and bites from Poste Moderne Brasserie Executive Chef Kyoo Eom.
Brainfood uses food and cooking to teach and empower young people. Serving hundreds of young people per year, these events are critical as they strive to meet the ever increasing demand for programs that allow local youth to become engaged, empowered and employed.
