Washington, DC (June 24, 2013) – More than 1,600 guests gathered tonight at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s (RAMW) highly anticipated annual RAMMY Awards Gala to celebrate the outstanding achievements and excellence in the Metropolitan Washington restaurant industry. The event was hosted at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel where chefs, restaurateurs and key restaurant industry players were awarded prestigious honors including Fine Dining Restaurant, Upscale Casual Restaurant and Restaurant Employee of the Year.
One of the most coveted awards of the evening was taken home by the Chef/Owner at Fiola, Fabio Trabocchi, who was named Chef of the Year. Mintwood Place was named Best New Restaurant while Blue Duck Tavern took home Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year. Casual Restaurant of the Year was awarded to Dupont Circle favorite C.F. Folks Restaurant.
Ashok Bajaj, owner of the Knightsbridge Restaurant Group, was named Restaurateur of the Year. Four of the Knightsbridge restaurants were contenders for other RAMMY awards including Power Spot of the Year and Beverage/Mixology Program of the Year.
Estadio was named Upscale Casual Restaurant of the Year and Bar Pilar, the popular 14th Street destination, and close neighbor to last year’s winner, Black Jack, earned the title of Hottest Restaurant Bar Scene.
The Honorary Milestone RAMMY was awarded to Clyde’s of Georgetown. Opened in 1963 by the late Stuart Davidson, 2013 marks the 50th year of business for the Georgetown landmark restaurant.
Announced in April, RAMW awarded the Duke Zeibert Capital Achievement Award to local restaurateur and community activist, Linda Lee. 2012 Duke Zeibert winner, the honorable Anthony A. Williams, former Mayor of the District of Columbia, presented the RAMMY to Linda Lee, citing her considerable contributions to the development of Chinatown/Gallery Place and tireless commitment to community.
The prestigious RAMMY Awards were presented during a theatre-style seated ceremony, which preceded an evening of dinner, dancing and celebration. Food and beverage pavilions featured an exciting mix of offerings from some of the event’s major sponsors, including Australia, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Virginia.
