Washington, DC (June 27th, 2011) – The grand ballroom of the Marriott Wardman Park was transformed into a festive masked soiree with four international Food Pavilions featuring cuisines from Australia, Cuisine Solutions, Mexico and the Nordic Partners including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Specialty beverage pavilions sponsored by Republic National Distributing Co. provided top-shelf drinks including the RAMMY Cocktails developed by the 2011 Mixology/Beverage nominees from the Estadio group and others. Live entertainment kept the dance floor full!
A lively, theatre-style presentation set the stage to give out the coveted crystal obelisks. Sunday’s event was hosted by Fox 5 Sue Palka, who provided great laughs and colorful commentary that matched the carnivale theme. As the winners are announced, explosions of jubliee were seen and heard throughout the room filled with excited foodies and teams of restaurant staffs.
This extraordinary evening began with delicious passed hors d’oeuvres, delectable wines, beverages and live entertainment.
The night belonged to Todd Gray, who received the coveted Chef of the Year. This comes from over ten years of providing delicious menus to Washington. José Andrés was honored with the Duke Zeibert Capital Achievement Award for his amazing career accomplishments. This also was a great night for Carmine’s, who took home two awards; the Power Spot of the Year and Voter’s Choice Favorite Restaurant. Restaurant Employee of the year was given to Ryme Lansari of Café Atlantico/Minibar and Restaurant Manager of the Year was given to Hans Olson of Clyde’s of Reston.
Also, Where Magazine‘s Publisher Rick Mollineaux provided Old Ebbitt Grill with their Visitors’ Choice Award.
