Washington, DC (May 18, 2011) – Hope, courage, and pink power filled the Fairmont Hotel when DC region’s top newswomen hosted the 3rd Annual Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer. Beloved survivors, supportive politicos, and friends from the media world came together to attend this signature event to help raise breast cancer awareness.
This year’s honored guests are Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, Founder & CEO of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Jennifer Griffin, FOX News Channel Correspondent and breast cancer survivor. The Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer is a kick-off event to Washington, D.C.’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It began in 2009 when a group of good friends in the TV news industry decided to get together for one cause. The pink cocktail affair held every spring draws an amazing crowd of breast cancer survivors, advocates and political and media power play.
The Newsbabes host team consists of well-known newswomen from across the region from media affiliates such as WUSA9, WJLA7, NBC4, News Channel 8, WTOP News, FOX5 and CNN.
WJLA7 morning anchor Alison Starling who lost a friend to breast cancer says, “Anything we can do together as women in this community to raise money and awareness about breast cancer is an invaluable service.”
