This year I’m ready for it – National Burger Day – and below are my top choices to grab a burger in the DC-area. Plan wisely!
Don’t call it a copy – call it a knock-off. Punch Bowl Social’s popular Knockoff Burger ($14, cover photo) is the experiential food and beverage venue’s take on the classic Big Mac, featuring two grass-fed, hormone-free beef patties with American cheese, “Comeback” sauce and shredded lettuce topped with pickled onions on a toasted sesame seed bun, served with rosemary fries.
Punch Bowl Social Arlington. 4238 Wilson Blvd Ste. 1180, Arlington, VA 22203. (571) 297-7640.
Burger lovers can rejoice – there are a new pair of buns in town sure to make it onto their top five list. Now available at the Wharf’s newest rooftop lounge atop the InterContinental Hotel, the 12 Stories Burger ($19) – packed with cheddar, fried onions, and pickles between a brioche bun – is a definite late night or brunch must-try.
12 Stories. 75 District Square SW 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20024. (202) 894-9700.
Beginning Tuesday (May 28th), and every Tuesday – Friday moving forward, burger fanatics can enjoy a $10 happy-hour burgers & brews special at the U Street Corridor’s popular roaring 20s-inspired tavern. From 5 – 7 p.m., guests can sip on local draft beers and nosh on mouth-watering burgers like the Tavern Burger – two beef patties smothered in American cheese, onion escabeche, and the bar’s eponymous Tavern sauce.
Gaslight Tavern DC. 2012 – 2014 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001. (202) 864-6272.
