Mardi Gras in DC – Things to Do and Eat

This year Mardi Gras falls a little bit earlier this year in Washington, DC and it will be celebrated February 25, 2020. Here are a few things to do during Mardi Gras in Washington, DC.

If you are looking at the calendar like me, you probably cannot believe we are in the third week of February 2020 already.

Perry Belmont House Masquerade Ball on Friday

On Friday, February 21 from 7 PM to 10 PM, the Perry Belmont House will host a black-tie event benefiting the Trust for the National Mall. $100 VIP ticket gets you one hour of open bar, otherwise, general admission is $75 and begins at 8 PM both cash bar. Both ticket prices include Southern comfort food from Design Cuisine. Tickets and more information is available at Eventbrite.com

Brixton Shaw Bar Crawl on Saturday

The Brixton on U Street in Shaw is serving as a Mardi Gras bar crawl hub where they will offer discounts on drinks and offer Mardi Gras themed giveaways. The bar event starts around 3 o’clock and goes until about 8 PM.

Mardi Gras Extravaganza – Fat Tuesday

A keystone event in Washington DC is the Mardi Gras Extravaganza hosted at Union Market. It will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25 starting at 6 PM and will end at 10 PM. New Orleans native Chef David Guas will be there with Spike Mendelsohn, Gina Chersevani, and Bruce Pike. The event is all you can drink with live music, a costume contest, and a hurricane cocktail competition benefiting DC Central Kitchen. There will also be a raffle, offering you a free trip for two to New Orleans providing you two nights and airfare. You must be 21 years of age or over. Tickets are $50 per person at Eventbrite.com or you can purchase them at the door for $60.

Dauphine’s Preview Menu at The Salt Line

The upcoming Dauphine’s, a New Orleans inspired restaurant, will share an early preview menu at The Salt Line. There will be seafood gumbo and Boucherie boards. This special preview menu at The Salt Line will be available only on February 25 from 4:30 PM to 10 PM. Reservations can be made through Opentable.

Arlington, VA Area – Bayou Bakery

If you are in Arlington, you know that Chef Guas’ Bayou Bakery will also be celebrating from 6 PM to 9 PM on Fat Tuesday. His place will offer flavors like Camellia Red Beans & Rice, Muffalettas, Jambalaya, Crawfish Monica, Beignets and, of course, B. B King Cake slices.

Live Limitless – Fairmont Hotel Mardi Gras Buffet

As you might come to a conclusion these days, the Fairmont Washington DC is a happening event space hosting special events throughout the year. And they are not missing out on Mardi Gras. The lobby will be offering half-price cocktails and a big easy buffet in the lobby bar from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Drinks like Sazerac, Criollo and Mardi Gras Punch will be available at $7.50 a glass, and you’ll receive your own gold, green and purple Mardi Gras beads. The buffet will offer shrimp corn, chorizo jambalaya, oyster fritters, spinach artichoke dip, Cajun-style wings, grapes, for $25. No reservations are required and you must be 21 years of age or older. Plus! During the happy hour, of you sign-up for the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program, you will be entered to win overnight stays, dinners and cocktails.

Pre-Fixe Carnival Dinner at Maydan

Also on Fat Tuesday, Maydan is hosting an event called Carnival where some of the top chefs will join forces for a pre-fixe family-style menu with house wine. Tickets are $350 per person for the upstairs, $500 for the fireside bar, and $750 for a fireside table seat. The price includes tax and gratuity. The special dinner benefits the International Center for Research on Women.

New Orleans Menu and Drinks at Quadrant Bar and Lounge

On Tuesday, the Ritz Carlton Washington, DC Quadrant Bar and Lounge presents a special menu including a crawfish boil, shrimp Po’ Boys, Cajun remoulade, gumbo, New Orleans style beignets and great cocktails priced at $17.
