Washington, DC (April 8, 2011) – Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants will bring Earth Day to new heights with the launch of Kimpton EarthCare Week, April 15-22, 2011, honoring its 30 year commitment to environmental responsibility and care. Poste to Host Pig Roast Benefiting Washington Youth Garden and FRESHFARM Markets
In celebration of Kimpton’s EarthCare Week, Poste Moderne Brasserie officially re-opens its courtyard with a backyard bash on April 20. Bev Eggleston of Eco Friendly Foods will provide a humanely-raised pig, which Chef Robert Weland and his team will spit-roast for the celebration. From 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., a $20 entry fee (cash only) will score a taste of the roasted pig from Eco Friendly Foods, accompaniments prepared by Weland, and a drink featuring red or white wine, beer or one of Poste’s popular garden punches, which are back for the season by popular demand. Additional plates of pig will be available for $15 and happy hour pricing on drinks will last all evening.

“Market Pizza” and Four-Course “Market Menu” at Urbana Restaurant and Wine Bar
Chef John Critchley and the Urbana team will honor Kimpton’s longstanding commitment to the environment by incorporating ingredients from local markets such as the Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market and the Southwest Waterfront Fish Market, into his lunch and dinner menu throughout EarthCare Week. For lunch, Urbana will serve a “Market Pizza,” featuring in-season ingredients purchased at the Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market ($10). For dinner, Chef Critchley will create a four-course menu featuring local market produce, and sustainable and local seafood purchased at the Southwest Waterfront. Recycle Wine Corks at Firefly Restaurant
This April, Firefly will become an official cork recycling drop-off site for ReCork by Amorim. Firefly wants to not only inspire guests, but the entire Dupont Circle neighborhood, to recycle old wine corks so they can become shoes, flooring tiles, building insulation or automotive gaskets instead of landfill occupants. Throughout the year, the wine cork recycling bin will be located in the vestibule of the restaurant, so it will be easy to simply drop off on the way to work, or before cocktails or dinner. **Only real corks will be accepted, no plastic or metal please. Cocktails for Conservation – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants EarthCare Week Celebration
Green-minded Washingtonians are invited to a festive eco-benefit hosted by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants on Wednesday, April 20, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., at Helix Lounge. Proceeds from the festive happy hour event will benefit The Trust for Public Land and the Potomac Conservancy. Kimpton’s resident mixologist Rico Wisner will serve up specially created libations for the event, with a focus on local, organic, and sustainable spirits and ingredients featuring seasonal flavors. Pop-Up Eco Art Exhibit at Monaco Alexandria, a Kimpton Hotel
Throughout Kimpton’s EarthCare Week April 15 – 22, Monaco Alexandria will host a weeklong pop-up art exhibit showcasing over a dozen regional artists and their inspired works made entirely from recycled materials. The artwork will be displayed in the hotel’s living room style lobby all week and features local artists such as Alison Sigethy, who creates whimsical works from reclaimed timber and glass, Rosemary Luckett, who used found items from Kimpton hotels to create her energetic wire sculptures, and David Edgar, who creates colorful and vibrant plastic sculptures out of discarded plastic. Each evening from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. the public is welcome to stop by Monaco Alexandria’s lobby to view the incredible works of recycled art for free.
