Although there are a few new places in DC popping up, distilleries in Maryland are very becoming more accessible to DC area residents. For example, MICSallenous Distillery is only 50 miles away from Union Station via Uber. Other distillery tours near Washington, DC, are becoming more available as well. First, MISCalleneous Distillery offers free tours and $9 tastings. Next, Sagamore Distillery offers $15 tour and a short drive from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Lastly, there is McClintock Distillery that offers free tours with $5 tastings.
The founder’s passion for distilling is inspired by the old Maryland craft traditions and the new traditions that he and others will shape. For this reason, he created a spirit that is enjoyed by those who drink what they like, and not what they’re supposed to drink.
Also, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) awarded the family-owned distillery four medals as part of the 19th annual competition including a double gold for both the Gregarious Gin and Popi’s Finest Rum. Finally, the distiller also took home silver for the Risky Rum and bronze for Gertrude’s 100% Rye Whiskey.
