Chef’s Serve it Up to ‘Friends

On Monday June 15th, I headed over to the Washington Hilton Hotel (quite a lobby), to attend the 20th anniversary of Food & Friends Chefs’ Best Dinner and Auction.  There was a smooth current of attendees, noshing around the silent auction tables and placing their bids. Cheeses, fruit and cured meats were provided from all over the country with special offerings from Perry’s, Georgetown Cupcake and Ruth’s Chris to name a few.

Downstairs, proud chefs from my favorite hotel restaurants were there. Urbana, Firefly, Ris, Nage, Poste, Jackson 20, and even the Hilton Washington brought duck confit with a cherry salad.

Over $750,000 was raised during this event and will help provide one million meals to the Greater Capital Region. Over the 20 year history, more than $9.2 million dollars have been raised at this event. The walk-around tasting was prepared in person by over 60 top chefs. I was very happy to taste all many offering beyond the hotel lobby and I urge you step out and make a reservation at the many great restaurants who wear their heart on their sleeves, or rather, their spoons.

The mission of Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling.
