Washington, DC (August 5, 2011) – Have you seen more people buried in their smartphones lately? No, they’re not checking their mail, the heat index, or the current height of the debt ceiling. They are playing a game.
It seems everyone is addicted to the wildly popular Angry Birds game. Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel is in full swing, hosting a series of Angry Hours this summer for those who can’t seem to get enough of the fatal flying fowls.
These angry hours began July 14th and will go through August 25th from 4pm to 7pm.
Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finland-based Rovio Mobile. Inspired primarily by a sketch of stylized wingless birds, the game was first released for Apple’s iOS in December 2009. Since that time, over 12 million copies of the game have been purchased from Apple’s App Store, which has prompted the company to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, such as those using the Android, among others.
Guests are invited to flock to SOCCi Urban Italian Kitchen + Bar located in the newly built, award winning hotel. Guests can test their Angry Birds skills against each other on a large projection screen at the hotel. Highest scores will be rewarded each week with an assortment of prizes including hotel stays, dinner at SOCCi and ultimately an iPad for the top score of the series.
Some of the game’s more notable fans include Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom, who plays the iPad version of the game, and author Salman Rushdie told the Wall Street Journal that he is “something of a master at Angry Birds.”
Are you ? Well, head over to the Renaissance Capital View and find out on Thursdays.
