On Saturday, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society presented the 2010 Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale Event at the Ritz Carlton Washington. This was an emotional and very personal event for me. A dear friend of mine passed away last year from plasma cell Leukemia. Like many of my friends, she made my life better. She had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. She still does that.
This black tie affair brought some of the most passionate people together to enjoy an evening celebrating such a great cause. Executive director Donna McKelvey, who has been with the society for 16 years, presented the Boy and Girl of the Year that all participants raise funds in honor of.
Although someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes, there is great hope for the future. LLS is the world’s largest national voluntary health organization dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and families.
I am proud to announce that Sean Gieger and Lisa Pagano were named 2010 Man & Woman of the Year! The campaign raised collectively over $850,000. They now move onto compete in the national campaign.
After the awards were announced, the fun continued with a great dj and dancing.
If there is something I would absolutely encourage to my readers, it would be to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
