Washington, DC (October 28, 2014) – The Washington W Hotel, located on 16th and F Street, NW has a new restaurant, replacing J&G Steakhouse. Out with the steakhouse, in with a Mediterranean market menu.
Brought to you by Executive Chef Barry Koslow, Pinea ushers in fresh ingredients. Instead of a Vermont farmers market, think of a bustling Marseille, Naples or an Athenian agora. “Big colors,” “fresh from the sea,” “ripe from an ashen garden,” “rustic and flavorful,” are the descriptors we use for this menu.
Although there are the pastas and rice dishes, and the obligatory “hotel burger,” Pinea is the place to find nutrient-rich proteins, hearty greens and big herbage. Good for the Paleo conscious, Charred Strip Loin with bean mash and a poached egg or the Branzino (European seabass) with faro (hearty grain), fennel, picholines (olives). Just ask to de-bone the fish, we suggest.
Starters like the Charred Octopus with saffron potatoes is paired perfectly with spicy chorizo, and the simply Fritto Misto is substantially sharable for two. For the end of your meal, try the coffee infused ice cream dessert and maybe hold back on the olive oil cake.
General manager Adrian Mishek created the cocktail menu which is wonderfully raw and takes many of its movements from the main menus. It’s nice and good way to start your evening, or end with it.
