Washington, DC (February 6, 2014) – This years 2014 Sugar & Champagne Affair, hosted on February 5th in the Ronald Reagan Building, raised nearly $100,000 to help animals in the DC community.
The event welcomed food lovers, animal lovers, and their four-legged friends to an evening of delectable desserts, mouth-watering savory tastings, and fine sparkling wines graciously hosted this year by Chef Todd Gray and Ellen Kassoff Gray of Equinox Restaurant, Muse at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and Salamander Resort & Spa.
Nearly 1,000 attendees from the community came to show their support and honored local animal crusaders, who fight tirelessly to protect and save animals in Washington DC on a daily basis. This year was dedicated to the Humane Law Enforcement Officers, Animal Care and Control Officers, and Humane Education Manager who were all honored at the event.
In addition to celebrating the brave men and women of WHS, the Humane Society also honored four deserving Humane Heroes from the community who have made a difference in the lives of animals, including: the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Katy Nelson, Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes, and Senovia Hurtado.
The event also featured a friendly Cake Challenge, in which six participating chefs created fabulous works of cake art, in the hopes of winning a VIP Party at Chef Todd Gray’s Muse at the Corcoran Gallery or Art.
