New York, NY (April 14, 2013) – Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship designed to bring the best of New York City to sea, will set sail from New York City in May, just a short drive away from Washington, DC.
The ship will be christened in its year-round homeport of Manhattan on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 by Cardinal Dolan, Mayor Bloomberg and The Rockettes. Following the inaugural events, the Norwegian Breakaway – which will be the largest ship to homeport year-round in New York City – will set sail on a series of cruise itineraries to Bermuda, Bahamas and the Caribbean beginning on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
Boasting hull artwork by pop icon and one of America’s most popular artists, Peter Max, Norwegian Breakaway will offer guests the high-caliber dining and entertainment options that New York is known for worldwide. The ship’s groundbreaking design includes an open-air boardwalk, The Waterfront, 678 Ocean Place, and is comprised of 60 suites, innovative studios and oceanview staterooms, as well as balcony and mini-suites.
Highlights include: Three Broadway shows including five-time Tony nominated Rock of Ages, famed comedy troupe The Second City, Ice Bar, which will be kept at 17 degrees Fahrenheit and feature New York City-inspired specialty cocktails, debut of Celebrity Chef and Food Network star Geoffrey Zakarian’s first restaurant at sea: Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian.
