Washington, DC (January 23, 2012) – Buddha-Bar DC is excited to announce additions to its culinary team. Continuing its growth and commitment to presenting food of the highest quality, the restaurant has hired highly regarded chefs Michael Doss and Sandra Celestine, and sushi chef Tetsuya Nakata.
Buddha-Bar DC has chosen to reject the traditional executive chef model and instead give Co-Sous Chefs Doss and Celestine and Executive Sushi Chef Nakata the freedom to fully showcase their creativity and technique in the kitchen without restraint. The locally-inspired chefs will bring a unique flair to Buddha-Bar DC that is specifically catered to District diners.
Chef Doss is classically trained in French cuisine and specializes in Asian-fusion cuisine. He first served as a chef at Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grille at MGM Grand Detroit and later refined his skills at the famed Washington, DC restaurant The Source under Scott Drewno.
“I am tremendously eager about the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of Buddha-Bar DC and work with a team that consistently delivers well executed dining experiences,” Chef Doss said. “Washington is one of the most lively and dynamic cities in the world and I’m confident that our new menu will offer exciting new flavors and techniques that District area diners will truly appreciate.”
Buddha-Bar DC is equally excited to have Chef Sandra Celestine, who has more than 15 years experience, bring her talents to the restaurant. Her unique German-Haitian background provides Chef Celestine with a valuable perspective on the blending of flavors and cultures that is ideal for Buddha-Bar DC’s Asian-fusion style.
“My diverse culinary background inspires me to create dishes that blend ingredients from various cultures and introduce diners’ palates to new and exciting flavors,” Chef Celestine said. “When done carefully, the fusion approach adopted by Buddha-Bar DC and found in my techniques, produces harmony in the kitchen and at the table.”
Buddha-Bar DC has also brought on Executive Sushi Chef Nakata because of his extensive experience and strong reputation in the DC restaurant community. Originally from Japan, he brings more than 20 years experience to Buddha-Bar DC and continues to impress and captivate diners with his expertise and artistic approach to sushi. Prior to Buddha-Bar DC, Chef Nakata enticed patrons with his delicious sushi creations at Washington, DC restaurants Kaz Bistro and later Murasaki for more than 10 years.
New additions to the menu include the Bombay Roll, Pork Potstickers with Oyster Sesame Glaze, Monk Fish with Okonomiyaki (A personal favorite), Asian Braised Short Ribs (Also a favorite), Mongolian Grilled Flat Iron Steak, and an authentic Chinese Hot Pot. The new menu was thoughtfully designed with specific focus on featuring authentic Asian dishes presented with innovative interpretations and flavor profiles.
