Nestled in the southeast of SouthWest Germany, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, the tiny town of Ehingen has a lot to tap!
This town of 26,500 inhabitants may not be big but it offers a lot of fun, good exercise and traditional charm. The weekly market on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:00am to 1:00pm is a special time to be a part of the local spirit and routine.
Ehingen, which calls itself the “beer culture city,” is known for its outstanding beer culture: Four historic breweries produce 43 different beers and have excellent traditional menus.
The 8.6 mile beer trail is yet another path, probably one of the most popular, that goes past three breweries in the city center, includes a great beer garden, numerous historical buildings, through the beautiful Danube Valley and along the Danube to the brewery in Berg.
In honor of the church patron, St. Ulrich, the Ulrichsfest in Berg will be celebrated from July 6-9, 2018. The wooden barrel gourmet market will feature products that mature or store in oak barrels, such as: vinegar, whiskey and distillates. Unusual crafts and regional delicacies are sold at the market while masks are carved in front of the spectators and the young beer makers brew their own craft beers.
First mentioned in 961, Ehingen today combines the past and the present in a pleasant harmony. On winding paths, you can discover the small streets and the town’s architecture. There are a number of delicious packages that include overnights, meals, seminars and gifts. The Hotel Restaurant Adler, the Gasthof Knupfer in Dettingen, the BierKulturHotel Schwanden and the BrauereiWirtschaft in Berg are four popular hotels and restaurants along with the country inn Krone in Dächingen and Adler in Altsteußlingen.
Ehingen is just over an hour by car southeast from Stuttgart.
