2014 Walk This Way Speaks Up to End Domestic Violence

Washington, DC (October 31, 2014) – More than 500 Washingtonians gathered for the 6th annual Becky’s Fund Walk This Way at the Embassy of Italy. The evening benefited the Becky’s Fund “Men of Code” program and raised over $200,000. “Men of Code” works with high school athletes and coaches to raise awareness and prevent intimate partner violence through prevention education surrounding violence against women and girls.

Comcast SportsNet’s Julie Donaldson hosted the program, and Michelle Schoenfeld of Renu Med Spa served as Chair. Attendees partook in passed Italian hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Glenfiddich Scotch Whiskey, Belvedere Vodka and Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial. The fashion show was brought to you by GANT and Karen Miller. The Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights football team kicked-off the runway later joined by professional athletes from our local teams.

The “Men of Code” program is one of the 23 projects chosen by the Engaging Men Grant Program by the Office of Violence Against Women, Department of Justice.  Lynn Rosenthal, White House Advisor on Violence Against Women, Office of the Vice President recently spoke at the National Press Club and mentioned Men of Code as a model program in the US working with men and boys to end intimate partner violence.
