Washington, DC (March 5, 2012) – On Saturday, over 1,000 gay and lesbian service members, veterans, and military families gathered for the first Servicemembers Legal Defense Network national dinner since the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” last September. Hosted at the National Building Museum, Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama, delivered a keynote address commemorating the occasion.
“That is part of the story of America – just as every nation does, we make mistakes. What makes our country so special is that here, ordinary men and women can come together to put us back on the right path – to continue our journey toward a more perfect union,” Jarrett remarked.
Thomas Roberts, of MSNBC and Entertainment Tonight, MC the evening and SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis provided a heartfelt welcome to the attendees. The event was catered by Windows.
SLDN is a non-partisan, non-profit, legal services, policy organization dedicated to bringing about full LGBT equality to America’s military and ending all forms of discrimination and harassment of military personnel on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
