The 2012 political convention season is upon us and as the last of the Republicans have made their exit from Tampa, Florida the Democrats have fully occupied Charlotte, North Carolina.
What we learned is that the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina was home to the GOP during their convention and hosted various groups and supporters in their total of 50,000 square feet of meeting space. This hotel has a total of 33 meeting rooms, with the largest meeting room with a size of 17,169 square feet and maximum seating capacity of 2,500. This can also be broken down to host a maximum of 14 breakout rooms. On Trip Advisor, this hotel is ranked #34 of 159 hotels in the area.
There are 683 guest rooms and 36 suites, three restaurants, renovated hotel lobby, the hotel location is right on the water, and an easy walk to the Tampa Bay Times Forum where they recently hosted the Republican National Convention. The hotel has 27 floors and was built in 2000 with a major renovation in 2010. Rooms run on average $129 – $259 a night.
The Democrats have made the Westin Charlotte their headquarters for the duration of their convention. Ranked #58 of 170 hotels in Charlotte on Travel Advisor, this hotel is just a short walk to the Bank of America Stadium and Time Warner Cable Arena where the convention will be held. It was built in 2003 and has 25 floors. It is the largest hotel in Charlotte.
This hotel covers over 44,000 square feet of meeting space. There are 24 meeting spaces and a grand Grand Ballroom 16,277 square feet. The hotel has one main restaurant called Ember Grill and has a large bar called Bar10, a lobby bar and a Starbucks coffee. This hotel has a total of 700 rooms including Traditional, Deluxe, Grand Deluxe, and Superior Rooms with Executive Suites and a 1,300 square foot Presidential Suite. All offer the Starwood Heavenly Bed and the best views of the city. Rooms rates average $135 – $249 a night.
