Over 800 attendees helped “Unlock the Power of Food” at the 15th Annual Blue Jeans Ball, where they joined in the fight against hunger.
This year’s event held Sunday April 8, 2018 raised $422,000 through sponsorship, spectacular silent and live auction items, ticket sales, and generous individual donations. The funds will benefit community organizations, households and residents in need throughout the Washington area.
Nearly 12% of area residents are at risk of hunger and the health concerns that follow, but each attendee’s support will help the Capital Area Food Bank create 1.8 million healthy meals for those who need them.
To highlight the importance of DC’s restaurant community in the food bank’s work, Ben’s Chili Bowl was recognized the 2018 Community Champion Award. The award celebrates the restaurant’s 60 years of service to the Washington community, and its place as an institution among local businesses that share the Capital Area Food Bank’s mission to end hunger.
Notable guests that joined the celebration included: Prince George’s County, MD Council Member, Deni Taveras; Prince George’s County Council Vice Chairman, Todd Turner; PG County Council, Karen Tole; Maryland State Delegate, Alonzo Washington; Director of Interfaith Outreach from Governor Hogan’s Office, Jennifer Gray; Outreach Director Governor Hogan’s Office, Bridgette Lundfelt; DC Councilmember, Vincent Gray; Candidate for DC Council, Ed Lazere; DC Councilmember, David Grosso; DC Councilmember, Robert White; DC Councilmember, Mary Cheh; and DC Councilmember, Charles Allen.
